Cooking up a country
14 May 2025
We’re super excited to share the teaser for our latest short film Boezemkring!
This new talent production is directed by Ayla van Kessel, based on a story by Ronald Giphart and Tip Lammes.
Boezemkring follows the members of a long-standing women’s student society, exploring the complex dynamics of sisterhood in the age of social media.
The film dives into themes of loyalty, judgment, and the pressure to present a perfect image—raising the question: are we really supporting each other, or just holding each other to impossible standards?
At the heart of the story is a powerful lead performance by the incredible Dieuwertje Blok, who brings depth and nuance to a role that’s both timely and emotionally resonant.
We’re proud of this bold and relevant project—and we can’t wait to share more with you soon!
As a short film producer, when you start with such a gigantic project as an international feature film, you can only do one thing and that is to think like Pipi Longstocking: ‘I’ve never done it before, so I think I can do it. ‘
The kick-off event of our feature film ‘cooking up a country – the movie’ was a fantastic event where the entire village of the Principality of Principato di Seborga came together to welcome the delegation of high-ranking film guests, including the producer of ‘the King’s speech’ Mark Foligno, Vice President International Business at Huanxi media Honglin Jia, CEO Filmmore Remco Mastwijk, Head of Production of the Ligurian Film Commission Roberto lo crasto and Italian producer Angelo Bassi, to welcome them to beautiful Liguria and to show them and taste what will be the setting of our film
It all started with the book of the writer James Vasey – author of The Seborga Trilogy who inspired us to film his story ‘Cooking up a country’. With a great team of extraordinary people we have shown what a small village can be good at and that the story of Seborga is a story that the entire world must see. We are entering the next phase with the commitments made by our guests so stay tuned at www.cookingupacountrythemovie.com
A special thank you to the Royal guards of Seborga, the Templars and of course Her Serene Highness princess Nina Menegatto who fully supports this project.

We have been working quietly behind the scenes for a very long time on a big movie production; a major international feature film. That is not something we normally do at Equs Film. But if you get the chance to acquire the film rights to a beautiful book set in a real-life principality in one of the most beautiful places in Italy, you can’t pass up the opportunity. During the Cannes Film Festival, a delegation of international film producers and other important filmmakers will come together in the Italian village of Seborga and meet Princess Nina Menegatto to see the beautiful setting of this film with their own eyes. And this has not gone unnoticed by the Italian press.

We are proud to present the director of our upcoming short film: Ayla van Kessel! Ayla will direct the short film that one of the Netherlands’ best writers Ronald Giphart is writing together with his daughter Tip Lammes. Ayla is a talented director who studied at the Dutch Film Academy and made the beautiful short film “Eredaad”, inspired by the life of WWII resistance fighter Hannie Schaft (the girl with the red hair). Since the story is about strong female characters, we really wanted a woman to direct and we are very happy with the choice of Ayla! Stay tuned for the next step in the production process.
IT’S Shortcutz Amsterdam 10TH ANNIVERSARY!!! EQUS FILM always has been a proud sponsor of the Shortcutz Awards and we are happy to celebrate with them. Hope you all can join us at Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam!
For a new television series, TravelMåtes, we travelled to Denmark to explore this beautiful country. The famous Dieuwertje Blok will receive a different famous Dutch person each episode with whom she will visit a special place in Denmark. Her guests are TV journalist Twan Huys, Stylist Maik de Boer, Cyclist Leontien van Moorsel, Actress and artist Carry Tefsen, Great Dutch Beakoff baker and presenter Robèrt van Beckhoven and the famous writer Ronald Giphart.
We are delighted to announce our latest short film DE OVERKAMMER. The collaboration with the talented Raymon Hilkman went so well with the film MOFFENMEID that we stepped into his next short film without thinking. THE OVERKAMMER is about a young student who literally battles with his receding hairline. Bald or not bald is the question. The film will be shown at the Netherlands Film Festival. BEBALD and join the movement !!!

It appears to be very quiet at EQUS FILM. But appearances can be deceiving. In these bizarre times of Corona, where our industry and our filmmakers were hit hard, we worked very hard behind the scenes to grow and implement our new plans for the future. EQUS FILM is ready for the next step in her life and that means breaking free from the past. A past filled with a lot of fun, wonderful learning moments, a lot of great film-and video productions and getting to know the best crew ánd clients. But also a past in which the desire to choose a clearer future began to take shape. In that future we will take all the beautiful people with us and we will propagate our chosen path even better through a new look, feel and name. It’s almost time……
We are very proud of the entire cast and crew of Moffenmeid (English title: DISGRACED) who, with passion and perseverance, created this beautiful short film about a hidden part of World War II. We are very honoured that IFAN COMPANY was able to contribute to this film and to the development of all the young talent that we got to know on set. This film is a great example of what can be achieved when a good story meets great people with passion, creativity, talent and team spirit. We hereby proudly present MOFFENMEID, that can be seen on the Dutch tv channel VPRO 3LAB.
